SmartFirmer by Precision Planting is a seed-firmer with integrated sensory technology that gives growers real-time insight into in‑furrow conditions. Mounted on the Keeton firmer bracket, it gently presses each seed into the trench to eliminate air pockets. Simultaneously, it measures key soil attributes, available moisture, temperature, organic matter, residue presence, and furrow uniformity, and sends that data directly to the 20|20 display. This allows operators to monitor seedbed conditions inch by inch and make informed adjustments on the go for consistent emergence and robust stands.
Beyond sensing, SmartFirmer feeds data into other Precision Planting systems like SmartDepth, vDrive or vApplyHD, enabling automatic adjustments to seeding depth, population, or fertilizer rates based on real-time soil feedback. It ensures seeds are placed in ideal conditions, even allowing targeted use of starter fertilizer. SmartFirmer supports a wide variety of crops, soybeans, corn, cotton, sugar beets, sunflowers, peanuts, edible beans, and helps growers optimise planting decisions, maximise seed potential, and make data-driven agronomic improvements.
